Customers are looking forward to the release date of the new Samsung Galaxy S5, as new leaks and rumours keep surfacing. Many competitor companies have launched their phones to take on the S4 - Samsung's current flagship smartphone. Speculation is rife about the possible features and specs of the new smart phone from the South Korean giant.
The most recent rumours suggest that the Samsung Galaxy S5 will come in a metal body. The company has always been known and in some cases criticised for its plastic body. The S5 is said to address this issue.
A metal body, however, does come with its own set of challenges. There is the possibility that the metal body interferes with the radio reception. Building a metallic removable back panel in a smart phone is difficult. Many smart phones with a metal body come with non removable batteries and without a micro SD card due to this reason.
Many customers have problems with a metal body because of the possibility of scratches and other forms of damage to the body of the phone. Some customers find it easy to overcome such problems in a plastic body as it is easily replaceable. The Samsung Galaxy S5 will need to feature a "scatchless" metallic body in order to alleviate such concerns.
The customization options may be limited for a metallic body compared to plastic. Competitors like Motorola seem to be focussing on customization. The Moto x comes in a variety of colours and other customization features in terms of the build of the phone.
Apple is also reportedly trying out a plastic version. There are rumours and leaks about a plastic variant iPhone set to be announced on Sept 10. The premium phone from Apple is still set to come in a metallic body. Apple, it seems, wants to increase the options for the customers by offering the new iPhone 5S in additional colours like gold and graphite.
Some analysts feel that the Samsung Galaxy S5, competing in the premium segment with a metal body seems like a tall order.
The Samsung Galaxy S5 is rumoured to come with an octa-core proseccor and 4GB RAM. The phone is also rumoured to carry a 16 MP camera. Many of the features that customers are familiar with from the S4 are expected to be carried on to the S5 with possible upgrades. The features include Smart Stay, AirGesture, AirView and S Voice amoung many others.
There have been rumours that the initial designs and chassis for the Samsung Galaxy S5 have been developed in Europe and currently being tested in Vietnam. The phone is rumoured to be manufactured in the Vietnam factory.
There have been no official announcements about the release date for the Samsung Galaxy S5, but analysts expect it to be early 2014.
