Arsenal are reportedly weighing up a move for out-of-favour Real Madrid playmaker Kaka.
The Brazilian, who won the Ballon d'Or and World Player of Year awards in 2007, has fallen down the pecking order at the Santiago Bernabeu in recent years and is now expected to be allowed to leave on the cheap before the transfer window closes.
Arsene Wenger has been in the market for some high-profile additions and, according to the Telegraph, the Frenchman is now considering an approach for Kaka, after his fellow Madrid midfielders and Gunners targets Mesut Ozil and Angel di Maria ruled out a transfer away from Madrid this summer.
The report claims Schalke teenage sensation Julian Draxler has emerged as Arsenal's top transfer target of late but adds Wenger is keen on making two major signings and Kaka could now join the ranks at Emirates before 2 September.
The 31-year-old, who joined Madrid from AC Milan in 2009 for a record €65m fee, never really managed to establish himself at the Bernabeu, thanks to a combination of poor initial form, injury issues and high competition for places.
Arsenal are long-time admirers of Kaka and were understood to have failed with a loan move for him two years ago. The player recently admitted he is looking for a move away from the Meringues, in order to gain regular game time, recapture his form and revive his international career, with the 2014 World Cup in homeland Brazil awaiting him at the other end of the season.
"I want to leave. I think now is the right moment for me and for the club for me to leave amicably. I have spoken to [manager] Carlo Ancelotti and with the club, they all know. Things are difficult for me now in the team, and the club knows what I want," the midfielder stressed.
"It's my obligation to work and keep training, but my father is already working to see if something comes up. I think it's the best thing for me and the club. We can only hope for a solution before this next Monday. My intention is to keep playing in Europe," he added.
Kaka, who is yet to feature for Madrid this season, has 23 goals and 23 assists to his name from 85 La Liga appearances.
