Former Real Madrid president Raman Calderon has accused the club's current administration of acting with arrogance as they come close to sealing a world record-breaking deal to purchase Tottenham star Gareth Bale.
Bale's arrival at Madrid is believed to have already unsettled some of the players at the club and he will no doubt have a great deal of pressure to produce completing his move.
He will smash the record set by Cristiano Ronaldo when the Portugal international moved to Madrid from Manchester United in 2009 and Calderon believes that the club has paid far too much money for a player who will likely unsettle their current line-up.
"The president is behaving in some cases with a bit of arrogance." He told the Daily Telegraph. "In this case, I think they've gone too far and, the arrogance, I do not think it's the right way to behave in life.
"You can not go over the world just pushing things to the limit."
Calderon also argued that with Ronaldo currently in talks over a contract extension, the club making a deal with a rival winger is not going to help the situation with the former Manchester United star.
"I don't think he's going to be happy with that," he explained. "The extension of the contract is going to be a problem in this case, with that amount of money paid for Bale."
Tottenham are yet to confirm the sale of Bale but Andre Villas-Boas admitted this week that the Welshman will likely leave for Madrid in the coming days.
The news has made way for a flurry of opinions over whether the Premier League's player of the year is worth the massive fee, particularly when he is largely unproven on the European and international stage.
