Venice Film Festival 2013: Highlights [PHOTOS/VIDEOS]
One of the most thrilling and glamorous dates on the Hollywood film festival calendar, the Venice Film Festival kicked off in stylish manner for 2013 with an influx of stars steeping up on the red carpet into the Italian city.
George Clooney and Sandra Bullock arrived in a very stylish way at a press conference in a boat driven by Clooney then hit the premiere red carpet that evening. The co-stars were the first to arrive ahead of a screening of their new movie Alfonso Cuaron's Gravity, which will open this year's festival.
The world's oldest international film festival and considered one of the world's big three film festivals along with Cannes and Berlin, is going on in a city slowly slipping into the sea Space, stars and outlawed sex will be on display in Venice this week.
George Clooney deflected a biased question with a remark about Ben Affleck's upcoming role as Batman and Sandra Bullock telling her role in the film the most challenging role she has ever done.
"Gravity" opens, in coy denial of the colossal imagery soon to follow, with unpretentious white letters on a black screen, spelling out facts about outer space.
"Life in space is impossible," the titles conclude, after warning us off with frightening details of distance, physics, and incredible cold.
This year's Highlights include the premieres of:
- Terry Gilliam's The Zero Theorem, featuring Matt Damon and Christoph Waltz,
- Jonathan Glazer's Under The Skin, featuring Scarlett Johansson
- Peter Landesman's Parkland, the movie set on the day that President John F Kennedy was assassinated.
