Manchester United are still considering making moves for Luka Modric and Mesut Ozil in the lead-up to deadline day as the side look to shore up their midfield.
Local media claim United are still in the market for Marouane Fellaini despite having a bid turned down by Everton for the Belgium international, but are also looking at the possibility of signing a second midfielder before deadline day hits at 11pm on Monday.
Modric has long been connected with the English giants and Sir Alex Ferguson was believed to be interested in the Croatian before he forced through a move to Real Madrid in the summer of 2012.
But Modric's time with the Spanish outfit has brought mixed success; while recently he has put in some top class performances for the side he was rated one of the worst signings in La Liga for the 2012-13 campaign alongside former Arsenal man Alex Song.
Manchester Evening News claim that David Moyes is hoping to take advantage of any possible unrest in Modric and make a play for the 27 year old.
Ozil is also believed to be on the manager's radar even though he committed his future to Madrid yesterday and insisted he wasn't interested in leaving the club.
With five days to go until United's squad is final, Moyes will be working hard to land at least one of his targets if only to show fans he is capable of competing in the transfer market just as Ferguson was.
Failed moves for Cesc Fabregas and Thiago Alcantara as well as having their joint bid for Fellaini and Leighton Baines labelled 'derisory' by Everton have left United looking at the possibility of ending the window without a senior signing.
But should Moyes be able to pull off moves for Fellaini and one of Ozil or Modric, fans would certainly rest easier knowing the midfield hole is finally being filled.
