Yohan Cabaye has made it clear to Newcastle United boss Alan Pardew that he wants to join Arsenal before the end of the transfer window and is hoping that his representatives can help force through a move.
The French midfielder was the subject of a £11m bid from Arsenal last week which was instantly rejected, though it is believed that the north London club will return with an improved offer within the next 24 hours.
The Newcastle Evening Chronicle reports that Arsenal are prepared to make an offer of £13m which they hope will be enough to persuade Pardew to part with the midfielder who cost just £4.8m back in the summer of 2011.
Cabaye has excelled at St. James Park but after a disappointing season in which the club narrowly avoided relegation, the France international has been heavily linked with a possible departure.
Paris Saint-Germain manager Laurent Blanc has made his admiration for the midfielder clear but it is only Arsenal who have made an official offer for the 27 year old.
Cabaye did not feature in the 0-0 draw with West Ham United at the weekend after reportedly informing Pardew that he did not want to be involved and it seems he has informed his agent that he is keen to make the move to the Emirates.
The Chronicle reports that the Cabaye camp have been working hard over the weekend in order to try and secure a move to Arsenal who have been left largely frustrated in the summer transfer window, with Yaya Sanogo their only new arrival thus far.
Pardew has also struggled to attract players to Newcastle this summer and it seems he has accepted that he is unlikely to be able to persuade Cabaye to remain at the club.
"We are on the case with that. We have to be armed," said Pardew. "We need to resolve it. If he goes, good luck to him. Bye, bye. We need to replace him with somebody as good."
Should Cabaye leave then Pardew will certainly have to work quickly to find a suitable replacement, though it is believed that director of football Joe Kinnear was working on attempting to sign Marseille attacker Andre Ayew over the weekend after travelling to France to watch the player in action.
