Cheryl Cole is defending her massive back tattoo after some fans criticised the new ink, which covers half of her back and the whole of her butt. The giant tattoo covers the British singer’s previous reported inks of a butterfly and barbed wire.
Her new body art is of English roses, her favourite flower, and covers her entire lower back and butt. Although the 30-year-old Girls Aloud member isn’t new to having tattoos (she has around 20 in total), the massive ink has surprised her fans when tattoo artist Nikko Hurtado revealed it on his Instagram page.
“Here is a in progress shot of a Tattoo I’ve been covering up and reworking. Really exited to show healed shots. It was some intense tattooing sessions. She’s tough as nails,” (sic) the tattooist wrote alongside the photo on Friday.
Although he didn’t mention his client’s name, the Internet soon found out that it’s indeed Cole’s.
She confirmed that it was her body part and tattoo on the photo. If her tattoo looks painful, it’s because it probably was. The whole process took 15 hours to complete in a span of months.
“I’ve had it for maybe 7-8 months, it was a long process but only just detailed it. And thank you :)” she replied to a follower.
And indeed she had it for a long time. She has been showing the public a glimpse of her backside’s roses, though it’s the first time people have seen it in full. She displayed part of the tattoo during the first gig of the Girls Aloud reunion tour in February.
She told Newscastle’s Metro Radio Arena then, “It was really painful, but I think I’m done with tattoos now. It wasn’t for any particular reason. I just liked the design. It took 15 hours in total.”
Reactions to her new body art were mixed, with some people thinking that it’s completely horrendous.
“Cheryl Cole’s going to regret that tattoo so much when her bum starts sagging,” Twitter user Martin wrote.
“I actually like Cheryl cole but her new tattoo is horrific!” added Rach Rose-Thompson.
“Oh dear, cheryl cole’s new tattoo is slightly revolting if you ask me,” user u w0t m8 chimed in.
But Cole doesn’t care about the negative reactions on her bum.
“@adamtweedyGA awww! People are entitled to their own opinion. Personally I’ve never really concerned myself with other people’s body parts!” she wrote.
And for good measure, she also added a not-so-subtle jab at her detractors by posting an image on Instagram.
As to why she chose English roses, she replied to a follower, “I have personal meaning behind it but English roses are my favourite flowers.”
