The business of Akshay Kumar's "Once Upon a Time in Mumbaai Dobaara" (OUATIMD) has seen a significant decline in its second weekend.
"OUATIMD", which was released during the Independence Day weekend, was slated to hit the screens on 9 August but was postponed to pave way for "Chennai Express" starring Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone.
Despite releasing on a long weekend, "OUATIMD" failed to do good business at the domestic as well as overseas box office. "Chennai express" played spoil sport for "OUATIMD" as the public opted for the SRK's film.
The film failed to perform well in the last 11 days except for 15 August when it made nearly 90 percent of the collections despite being screened on less number of shows.
The screen count was increased the following day but the collections dropped, as it did not live up to the expectations of the audience. Even Akshay's star value could not help the film as it failed to provide interesting content.
The film did not create any impact during weekends and remained low-key during weekdays. It raked in ₹53 crore plus nett in the first week, while the other contender "Chennai Express" grossed more than ₹100 crore in its debut week and is still dominating the box office. "OUATIMD", which is made on a budget of ₹95 crore, will not be able to recover its costs. The makers of the film will face losses, according to bollywoodhungama.
Directed by Milan Luthria, "OUATIMD" has a huge star cast including Akshay Kumar, Imran Khan, Sonakshi Sinha, Sonali Bendre Behl, Sophie Choudhry, Sarfaraz Khan, Mahesh Manjrekar and Abhimanyu Singh. It is a sequel to "Once Upon a Time in Mumbaai", a super hit film that was released in 2010.
