A still from 'The Luncbox' with Irrfan Khan
At a press conference on Friday, KJo replied to media's question whether the uncanny love story should make it to the prestigious academy awards saying, "As far as Oscars is concerned, it is not up to us. It's (the decision is) upon the FFI (Film Federation of India). We can only communicate. They (FFI) have a certain positioning when they choose they look into potential world cinema films."
"We can only say that yes, this should be a frontrunner, and India should look at it in its selection very carefully," reported IANS.
The ecstatic producer relished the fact that the prestigious film which already had several global producers was associated with his banner Dharma Productions.
"There are films which are most superior in content, absolutely brilliant in its storytelling. When I saw 'The Lunchbox' I wished that my name was associated with it, and that has happened.
"I feel proud seeing such a film as an audience member and a filmmaker because I know that I am not capable of making such a film. So if my name gets associated in this way, then I am happier and I think it's a good way forward for the company," said Johar.
"The Lunchbox" which is about a romance between a senior government official and a bored housewife spinning from a mistaken lunchbox has received international acclaim at Cannes Film festival 2013, winning the Critics Week Viewers Choice Award.
The power-packed cast of the film includes Irfan Khan, Nimrat Kaur and Nawazuddin Siddiqui.
Karan revealed that he was moved with the beautiful love story that the film offered and wished some day to have a similar affair.
"I wish to have a love story like Irrfan and Nimrat Kaur in the film. My love story is there only with my mother as of now. I have been waiting to get a lunch box (from a lady)...I hope it comes," the filmmaker was quoted by Press Trust of India (PTI).
The film is set to release on 20 September in India.
