A report on Thursday said that the Free Speech Coalition, a porn industry trade association, issued a moratorium the previous day pending the results of more tests on a porn star suspected of being HIV positive. The XXX-rated performer was unnamed at that time.
On Thursday, the LA Times identified the actress as 28-year-old Cameron Bay. Her talent agency confirmed that she has tested positive for HIV which prompted the halt on all filming activities. Ms Bay had confirmed also the results to AVN Media Network, an industry publication.
She initially had her regular test for STD on Monday but the result was inconclusive. She went through a second test the next day with a new blood sample, and the preliminary result that came out on Wednesday said she was positive for HIV, which made it necessary to have additional tests to confirm the results.
One possible victim of Ms Bay's STD is Sydney Leathers, the sextmate of disgraced New York City mayoral candidate Anthony Weiner. Ms Leathers just released her porn film titled Weiner and Me wherein she had unprotected sex with a freelance porn actor, Xander Corvus, who portrayed Weiner in the skin flick.
In turn, Mr Corvus was the last on screen partner of Ms Bay, who just tested positive for HIV. They starred in Kink.com's Public Disgrace series.
According to Gawker.com, which reported Ms Leathers' possible risk of STD infection, the sextmate of Mr Weiner and Mr Corvus both had tests before they shot their sex scenes and were found to be healthy. She also had another test after the shoot and was declared negative for any STD.
But the Center for Disease Control considers negative test findings within the first three months of HIV exposure could be false.
The Free Speech Coalition said it is working with a doctor affiliated with the Adult Production Health & Safety Services to contact and treat any other performers who might have been exposed to the STD from Ms Bay.
Diane Duke, executive director of the coalition, said the moratorium would be lifted once the risk of transmission has been removed. She added the actress did not likely contract HIV on a film set.
In 2012, the porn industry had a similar crisis when a syphilis outbreak hit about 12 porn actors that led to a 10-day moratorium. Despite these risks of infection, the porn industry is resisting the mandatory use of condoms when filming sex scenes.
