Steven Gerrard was the main factor behind Luis Suarez apologizing to Brendan Rodgers and rejoining his Liverpool teammates, according to reports.
Gerrard, who is the most longest-serving figure in the Liverpool line-up and regarded by many as a club legend, was believed to have spoken to Suarez about his conduct in which he was pushing in the public sphere for a move away from the club.
The 33 year old accompanied Sureaz to speak to Rodgers, according to the Daily Mirror, with the Uruguay international keen to rejoin the squad but concerned over how the manager would react to his apology.
The saga began after Suarez claimed he wanted to leave England due to his poor treatment by the press for recent controversies including being found guilty of racist remarks towards Patrice Evra and biting Branislav Ivanovic. Banned for the first six games of this season, the striker claimed he would relish in a move to a club of the caliber of Real Madrid.
But Madrid have shown no concrete interest in the player, and the only club to come forward with a bid so far in this window has been Arsenal. Liverpool have maintained that they will not sell Suarez and if they do it will be for an amount of money that is far higher than the Gunners' latest offer of £40m plus £1.
But while on international duty particularly, Suarez continued to discuss the possibility of moving, insisting that promises were made to him that he could exit the Merseyside club if they didn't qualify for the Champions League this summer.
This left Rodgers ordering Suarez to train alone away from the rest of the squad as the season edged closer.
But Gerrard has once again been a shining light for the club, making it clear to Suarez that he will be accepted back into the group after making his peace with Rodgers.
If Suarez's performances for Uruguay during the week are anything to go by he still has the skills that have made him considered to be one of the top strikers in the world and should Liverpool keep the star and refocus him they will have a much better chance at challenging the likes of Arsenal for a top four spot this season.
