"Once Upon a Time in Mumbaai Dobaara" (OUATIMD) had a dull first weekend at the domestic box office.
The film has earned approximately over ₹40 crore nett in four days of its release. The film's first day (15 August) collections were impressive and it raked in around ₹11.25 crore, thanks to the Independence Day holiday. But "OUATIMD" failed to sustain its business on the remaining days (from Friday to Sunday). It earned ₹10.25 crore on Friday, around ₹8.75 crore on Saturday and about ₹10 crore on Sunday.
Including the first day figures (₹11.25 crore), the total collections of the film are now estimated to be over ₹40 crore. "OUATIMD" was released in more than 2,000 screens on 15 August (Thursday). Despite a limited release, "OUATIMD" scored big at the domestic box office on the first day.
On Friday, the film's screen count was increased to over 2,500. However, the increase did not help "OUATIMD" to fare well during the first weekend.
"OUATIMD" has performed decently in north India, but has fared poorly in south India and west Bengal where "Chennai Express" is doing good business. Particularly in Tamil Nadu, the delay in the release of Tamil film "Thalaivaa" has helped "Chennai Express" to fetch good collections.
However, "OUATIMD" has failed to impress critics as well as audience. According to reports, the violent scenes in the scene have kept families away from watching the film. Directed by Milan Luthria, "OUATIMD" is a sequel to the smash hit feature film "Once Upon a Time in Mumbai" that released in 2010.
Akshay Kumar reprises the role of Shoaib played by Emraan Hashmi in the original. Apart from Akshay, Imran Khan, Sonakshi Sinha and Sonali Bendre are playing key roles in the sequel.
