The infamous Rockefeller impostor, Christian Karl Gerhartsreiter, was given 25 years serving time by the Los Angeles County Superior Court for murdering his landlord John Sohus.
Mr Gerhartsreiter became infamous for successfully posing as a member of the powerful clan, Rockefeller, hence becoming known as the Rockefeller impostor. His pretension was able to snatch him a business executive for a wife and was able to rub elbows with the society's elites and powerful personalities.
However, when the marriage ended and his wife found out he's fake, Mr Gerhartsreiter kidnapped his daughter and was later sentenced to five years for the abduction. Incidentally, the police re-examined his association with the Sohus family. Mr Gerhartsreiter was then charged with murdering Mr Sohus. After he was convicted, he fired his lawyers and thought it smart to represent himself in court.
On Thursday, The Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge George G. Lomeli sentenced Mr Gerhartsreiter to 25 years, serving jail time for beating his victim's head with a deadly weapon, the Los Angeles Times reported.
Mr Gerhartsreiter buried his victim behind the victim's guesthouse which he rented after separating with his wife. Mr Gerhartsreiter was also being suspected for the death of Mr Sohus' wife, Linda, whose body has not yet been found.
However, Mr Gerhartsreiter, upheld that he is not guilty of all the charges even if he was already convicted.
"I want to assert my innocence and that I firmly believe that the victim's wife killed the victim, but be that as it may, once again, I did not commit the crime," Mr Gerhartsreiter said.
Sadly, Ellen Sohus, sister of his victim, said that even with Mr Gerhartsreiter's conviction, their family will not be able to move on from what happened.
"John is still gone. What we do have are some answers. In 1994, we had some of the questions answered when John's remains were found buried in his own backyard, but so many questions remain unanswered, Ms Sohus said.
Ms Sohus said that there were questions left unanswered.
"Why did you kill my brother? What happened to Linda? I believe Linda is dead and that you are responsible for her death," Ms Sohus asked Mr Gerhartsreiter during trial.
A report from CNN revealed that Mr Gerhartsreiter was truly one "Talented Mr Ripley."
According to CNN, Mr Gerhartsreiter went to the United States from Germany back in 1978. He spent a few years in Connecticut, moved to Wisconsin and there married through a green card arrangement.
He then resided in the wealthy community of San Marino where he lived extravagantly as Christopher Chichester from 1983 to 1985.
According to a Vanity Fair profile, "Christopher Chichester" was a film student and an English royalty; under this pretend name, Mr Gerhartsreiter, rented the guesthouse of the Sohus couple.
He became so controversial that a 2010 documentary titled Who is Clark Rockefeller? aired on the Lifetime network.
