After Disney's The Lone Ranger failed to top the box office charts, many feared that Johnny Depp's Hollywood star power will no longer be able to charm moviegoers to watch his films. However, the Pirates of the Carribean actor has an impressive musical talent to boast and to fall back to if things don't work out for him in the world of movies.
Actor Johnny Depp hints that his retirement might be "not too far away."
Depp, who is known to make surprise performances at music events, was spotted with Ed Sheeran and One Direction's Zayn Malick at a recording studio in Los Angeles on August 12. According to NME, the 50-year-old actor is rumoured to work on a musical project with pop singers.
The Cab member Alexander DeLeon confirmed Malick's presence in the studio after he uploaded a photo of himself with the One Direction member and Depp.
He captioned the photo with "Pirate lessons from the one and only. Thanks for having us, Mr. Depp."
While known to be more of a rock n' roll guy, Depp seems to be doing collaborations from younger pop musicians such as Sheeran and Malick.
In 2012, Depp surprised the crowd at the MTV Movie Awards when he performed two songs with The Black Keys. He and the band played "Gold on the Ceiling" and "Lonely Boy" from The Black Keys 'El Camino. In addition, he had previously shared the stage with other musicians including Marilyn Manson and Pearl Jam's Eddie Vedder.
If he plans to ditch his film career for music, no doubt he'll definitely excel in that field. Although the actor thinks of retirement every day, he simply takes back what he said in the Rolling Stone interview by saying that while he still "got the opportunity and the desire and the creative spark" to do the things that he can do right now, he should do them."
Meanwhile, English singer Ed Sheeran revealed that during the time that he was starting in the music industry, record companies told him that he was unmarketable because of his looks.
"Every single label I had gone to at the time had told me this song wasn't a hit this song wouldn't work and the fact that I was slightly chubby and ginger wasn’t a good 'marketing tool' for them," he said.
