The Tamil version of "Raanjhanaa" titled "Ambikapathy" is all set to have a massive release in Tamil Nadu this Friday (28 June). The Dhanush starrer will be releasing across 275 screens in TN and Kerala.
This is the biggest ever opening for a Hindi film dubbed in Tamil. "Raanjhanaa Tamil version releases day after over 250 screens in Tamilnadu. I'm very eagerly waiting for the results," Dhanush said on his Twitter page.
"Ambikapathy" is an intense love story of a Hindu Brahmin boy and a Muslim girl. Dhanush made his debut in Bollywood with "Raanjhanaa" co-starring Sonam Kapoor. The lead actors won accolades for their performance from all quarters. The film's dubbed version in Tamil is also expected to do well at the box office.
Apart from Dhanush, the film has another common connection between the southern film industry and bollywood. Music composer A R Rahman, who is equally popular in both the industries, has composed the songs for "Raanjhanaa" ("Ambikapathy" in Tamil).
The songs are one of the highlights of the film and they are already topping the musical charts. The dialogues for the Tamil part are written by filmmaker John Mahendran and the lyrics are penned by Vairamuthu.
Directed by Anand L Rai, "Ambikapathy" will be clashing with other Tamil releases including Bharathiraja's "Annakodi" and Vincent Selva's "Thulli Vilayadu".
Earlier, there were reports that Dhanush's Tamil film "Mariyaan" (Maryan) will be releasing on Thursday (27 June). But it seems the film's release has been pushed further to July. Latest buzz is that the film might hit the theatres on 12 July or 19 July.
"#Maryan update - Trade sources have indicated that release has been pushed to July 12/19," senior journalist Sreedhar Pillai tweeted.
