Jackie Chan's managers officially confirmed on Thursday that the Chinese actor is alive. The 59-year-old action superstar became a favorite target for the past days on the internet with numerous fake death claims both old and new.
The official statement of the Chinese actor's handlers read: "He joins the long list of celebrities who have been victimized by this hoax. He's still alive and well, stop believing what you see on the Internet." The origin of the death hoax is still unidentified but social networking sites were quick to pick up and spread the news without solid confirmation.
For instance, the Facebook page "R.I.P. Jackie Chan" garnered attention from the fans after posting a story about the actor's sudden death. The post reads: "At about 11 a.m. ET on Wednesday (June 19, 2013), our beloved actor Jackie Chan passed away. Jackie Chan was born on April 7, 1954 in Hong Kong. He will be missed but not forgotten. Please show your sympathy and condolences by commenting on and liking this page."
Some fans who took the hoax seriously expressed their sadness as they wrote messages of condolences. Twitter has made some noise as well about the death hoax about Jackie Chan which caused more fans to believe the circulating reports.
Hopefully, the official statement of Jackie Chan's managers will finally put a stop to the internet death claims on the Chinese actor. Jackie Chan is currently leading a six-day delegation for the 2013 Chinese Film Festival in New Delhi, India.
During his brief visit, Jackie Chan expressed his admiration for the Bollywood music and dance industry. The actor also hopes for an Indo-Chinese movie collaboration since the film festival is about intensifying the relations and cultures between the two countries.
A special Tuesday evening screening was scheduled for Jackie Chan's new directorial project called "Chinese Zodiac." The action-adventure film is about the worldwide search for the 12 bronze heads mystic artifacts of the animals from the Chinese zodiac.
