A bus fell off a bridge and plunged into a dry riverbed in the Indian state of Maharashtra Monday killing thirty seven on board.

The accident occurred in Ratnagiri district located 200 km south of Indian city of Mumbai, multiple sources have reported.

Fourteen others are reported to have been injured.

The overnight bus was carrying more than 50 passengers travelling from Goa to Mumbai when the driver reportedly lost control early Tuesday morning.

Indian Media reports said that there were foreign tourists on board the bus but police had not confirmed about it.

No other vehicle is involved in the accident and the driver is among the injured.

Police have said that they are investigating the cause of the accident which currently is unclear except for the fact that the driver "suddenly lost control" at around 3:30 a.m. Tuesday local time (6 p.m. Monday EST).
