Wales celebrate retaining the Six Nations title after thumping England

Wales clinched the Six Nations championship and denied England the Grand Slam with a 30-3 victory in Cardiff yesterday.

Needing to win by eight points to pip their visitors to the title, Wales inflicted England's heaviest defeat under Stuart Lancaster with a performance of utter dominance.

Two second-half tries from wing Alex Cuthbert, augmented by kicks from Leigh Halfpenny and Dan Biggar, were just reward for Wales' courage in attack and their mauling of the much-vaunted English forward pack.

In response, England could manage only a single penalty from Owen Farrell. They have scored just one try in their last four matches.

After the match Lancaster told the BBC that England "didn't turn up" and couldn't "match the physicality" of their hosts. He pinpointed set pieces as a key area of weakness, and added that "Wales thoroughly deserved the win, no complaints."

Meanwhile Wales' interim head coach Rob Howley said that winning this year's Six Nations title was better than the Grand Slam his side managed last season.

Howley said his team were "outstanding", adding: "We talked about our discipline and attitude. They have shown great fortitude and they outclassed England."
