If the pre-fight conjecture is any indication, Georges St-Pierre’s welterweight title defense against Nick Diaz could be a bout for the ages.

The two veteran combatants will be the main event for UFC 158 Saturday night at the Bell Centre in Montreal, Quebec, Canada.

The 29-year-old Diaz and Pierre nearly came to blows during Friday’s weigh-in, and Diaz also unloaded a verbal assault on the champion during the pre-fight media conference call earlier this week. Diaz also reportedly accused St-Pierre of steroid abuse in a radio interview Thursday.

The highly anticipated fight has hit several snags over the years. Originally expected to fight back in 2011, the fight was cancelled due to an ACL tear by St-Pierre. With the Canadian national in recovery, Diaz then met Carlos Condit and lost by unanimous decision.

Diaz was later suspended for a year following a failed drug test after the loss to Condit, and hasn’t entered the octagon since.

Winner of his last 10 fights, including seven title defenses, St-Pierre showed no sign of slowing down after his knee injury, and took out Condit by unanimous decision in November of last year.
