Arsenal are considering a £20m approach for Fiorentina striker Stevan Jovetic in the summer. The Mail reports that scouts from the Emirates have been checking up on the Montenegrin international regularly this season.
Jovetic is a long-time transfer target for the north London club and given Arsene Wenger is expected to have £70m in summer transfer funds available, a move for the Eastern European forward may well come to pass.
The 23-year-old striker has 12 goals and four assists from 23 Serie A appearances this term and a further three goals and three assists from five appearances for his country.
The only problem for Arsenal could be the Champions League. The Gunners are fifth in the Premier League, well behind Chelsea in the race for the final qualifying place for Europe's elite club tournament next year.
Given English champions Manchester City are also interested, according to the Express, in Jovetic, Arsenal will have to ensure they can offer Champions League football to the Montenegrin because it is unlikely Wenger could outbid the Etihad club.
Unfortunately for both City and Arsenal, Jovetic, who is aware of the interest his performances have generated, has cooled talk on a summer move. The Montenegrin has insisted he wants to think about helping the Florence-based club into European competition before contemplating his future.
Fiorentina are fourth in the Italian top flight, three points behind AC Milan in the race for the final Champions League slot. As things stand, Vincenzo Montella's men will qualify for the Europa League next year.
Cazorla: Arsenal Can Gain Momentum from Bayern Win
Meanwhile, Arsenal midfielder Santi Cazorla believes the Gunners' victory against Bayern Munich earlier this week could help regain momentum for forthcoming fixtures.
"We have to use this game as an example for the future and try to play as well as we did against Bayern. The positive we take out of the game is that we gave a good account of ourselves against one of the favourites for the Champions League, winning at their stadium," Cazorla told the club website.
