Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers is confident that his side can continue their recent good form and score a first victory over a side in the Premier League top six this season when Tottenham visit Anfield on Sunday.

Liverpool will be the latest side to take on the challenge of containing Gareth Bale.

Having beaten Swansea and Wigan for a combined score of 9-0 in their past two Premier League outings and come close to overturning their Europa League deficit against Zenit St Petersburg in between, there is hope once more that Liverpool can put a season of inconsistency behind them.

“It was a brilliant performance last week [in beating Wigan 4-0] and we're just focusing on the next game, which will be a fantastic game against Tottenham,” he said, according to Liverpool’s official website.

"The tipping point now is that it's going more for us than against us. We've played a lot of really good games this season and maybe weren't as cohesively good then as we are now.”

As encouraging as Liverpool’s form has been, it cannot match up to what has been a memorable week for Tottenham. Having beaten north London rivals Arsenal to further strengthen their chances of Champions League qualification, Spurs then dominated Italian giants Inter en route to a 3-0 victory in the first leg of their Europa League last-16 tie.

Gareth Bale’s continued stunning performances have understandably grabbed the headlines, but manager Andre Villas-Boas will also have been encouraged by the recent form of Gylfic Sigurdsson. The Icelandic midfielder initially struggled since his arrival last summer, but, with two goals and two assists in his past three games, he is now finding his feet.

And Sigurdsson says, despite the hectic schedule, he can’t wait for the trip to Liverpool—a club he turned down before signing for Spurs.

“That’s the way you want it," he said, according to Tottenham’s official website. "You want to have two games every week, that’s why we’re here, we want the games, especially big games like against Arsenal, Liverpool and Inter Milan.

"We’ll now recover for a couple of days and make sure we’re ready for Liverpool."

Spurs should have Emmanuel Adebayor back available after a knee injury, although Clint Dempsey is not yet ready to return.

Liverpool forward Daniel Sturridge has returned to fitness and looks likely to feature.

Liverpool (probable)

G: Reina

D: Johnson, Carragher, Agger, Enrique

M: Lucas, Gerrard

Downing, Suarez, Coutinho

F: Sturridge

Tottenham (probable)

G: Lloris

D: Walker, Vertonghen, Dawson, Assou-Ekotto

M: Parker, Dembele

Lennon, Bale, Sigurdsson

F: Defoe

Prediction: In theory, Tottenham’s hectic schedule should catch up with them, however, such is their form, that is appears to be a bonus in allowing them to keep their strong momentum going. Some have tried to suggest that Spurs are a one-man team, but under Villas-Boas the side is far more resilient and tactically disciplined than in past seasons.

But, especially at Anfield, Liverpool should pose them a stern test. With Sturridge back to link up with the exciting Philippe Coutinho and exhilarating Luis Suarez, the Reds should give Tottenham’s defense a thorough examination.

An entertaining draw could be in store.
