The U.S. senate on Thursday voted 63-34 to confirm longtime CIA veteran John Brennan to serve as the next director of the agency.

The confirmation vote came shortly after the Senate voted 81-16 – way above the 60-vote threshold needed – to end the near 13-hour-long filibuster by Sen. Rand Paul.

John Brennan's nomination for CIA director will now lead the CIA.

Paul opposed Brennan’s confirmation on Wednesday in order to get answers from the Obama administration regarding his drone policy and his authority to kill Americans on U.S. soil with drones if they are deemed an imminent threat.
