Will Smith sparked a frenzy in the capital when he was spotted wandering around the streets of south London with two Labour MPs.
The Fresh Prince of Bel Air star, known for his roles in Men in Black, Independence Day and I am Legend, was on a tour of Brixton with Dulwich MP Tessa Jowell and Labour's shadow business secretary Chuka Umunna after apparently declaring he wanted to see "London's Harlem".
The trio visited music venue Electric Brixton before heading to a cafe for a coffee. Hundreds of Smith fans flocked to catch a glimpse of their 44-year-old hero.
"Early visit with @ChukaUmunna Brixton Market+Brixton Village then to Black Cultural Archives with Dawn Hill & Will Smith," Jowell tweeted her 14,300 followers on Twitter.
"Will Smith wanted to see 'London's Harlem'. So proud to show him the best of Brixton."
But her remarks did not go down well with some proud residents. One said: "London doesn't have a Harlem. Brixton is so middle class now it's hard to find anyone left there that was even born there."
Earlier, Smith made a surprise appearance at St Martins in the Fields High School for Girls in neighbouring Tulse Hill.
Headmistress Lesley Morrison told a local paper: "When he walked in they just went wild.
"That goes for the staff as well, I thought some of them were going to pass out. To be kissed by Will Smith - I shall never wash my face again."
Smith is in town with his 14-year-old son Jaden who is supporting pop icon Justin Bieber on tour.
