A hat trick by Luis Suarez could not be contained in Liverpool’s 4-0 shutout of Wigan Saturday at DW Stadium in Premier League play.
Suarez surpassed Manchester United’s Robin Van Persie as the league's top goal scorer with 21 this season.

Defense played just as important a role in the Gunners victory, with keeper Pepe Reina stymieing five of Wigan’s six shots on goal for his ninth clean sheet this year.
Recent Brazilian transfer Philippe Coutinho continued to pay dividends as he worked the ball into the area and found Stewart Downing for a header up front and a 1-0 lead in the second minute of play.
Coutinho then placed an excellent through ball behind the Latic backline and Suarez split defenders to fire off his first goal of the day in the 18th.
Suarez continued his stellar set piece play with an arcing shot that deflected off Wigan forward Shaun Maloney’s head, then off the right goal post and past Latics goalkeeper Ali Al Habsi in the 34th.
The hat trick was complete in the 49th after defender Glen Johnson fought off several challenges in the middle of the pitch, and found Suarez all alone up front, who rifled off a shot between Al Habsi’s legs.
The Latics showed their frustration with two yellows, and Liverpool responded with two of their own bookings.
