Lionel Messi scored his 39th goal of the La Liga season to even things up between Barcelona and Real Madrid Saturday at the Bernabeu.

Early in the sixth minute, Karim Benzema gave Los Blancos an early lead after Morata sailed a looping cross to the right side of the area, and Benzema put it home in front.

The Catalans kept the pressure on with a 78 percent possession advantage, but Messi was the only one to breakthrough in the 18th minute.

Despite lack of possession, Madrid has taken four shots with two on goal, compared to two shots for Barcelona.

If it’s anything like the first, the second half should be just as promising.
