Melissa King was named Miss Delaware Teen USA but her reign was short lived. King had to give up the title and resigned as Miss Delaware after a potential porn video surfaced online on Tuesday.
Melissa King is denying that the video, posted on GirlsDoPorn.com, is of her but has decided to give up her crown and title as Miss Delaware Teen USA to avoid any more scandal. According to The News Journal, the video features a woman who looks and sounds like King and the video, shot last summer, was recorded shortly after King turned 18-years-old.
Speaking to The News Journal, King emphatically denied that it was her in the video, when questioned about it she said, “Absolutely not.” For King, she believes it is a case of mistaken identity and bad luck. Messages sent to King’s attorney, identified by pageant officials as J. Gregory Hanningan, by The News Journal were not returned. The porn site did not respond to questions sent on Tuesday evening either.
Hailey Lawler, the runner-up of last year’s pageant, will be named Miss Delaware Teen USA. Hailey’s mother, Suzanne, did not want to comment on her daughter being crowned because nothing was official as of Tuesday evening, notes The News Journal.
Gawker had more details about the video including the fact that the woman appearing on it said she participated in beauty pageants and had turned 18 in March. Sadly, this video revelation masks King’s troubled upbringing and her success in beauty pageants.
In an interview following her being named Miss Teen Delaware International, King discussed growing up in foster care for six years, between the ages of 12 and 18, and had financial difficulties growing up. She had planned to perform some of her volunteer duties, required of her as Miss Delaware Teen USA, to work with foster children.
King plans to issue a full statement later and pageant officials plan to respond as well, notes The News Jounral.
On Twitter, King has remained relatively silent after the news broke of a potential video. On Twitter, King has mostly responded to well-wishers and posted this quote, “God wouldn't give you something that you couldn't handle...,” on Tuesday.
