Superstar Janet Jackson's revelation Monday that she is already married to her fiancé, the Qatari businessman Wissam Al Mana last year, has quashed all hopes of her fans and the media to witness an extravagant wedding that accompanied frenzied rumors recently.

Soon after the couple declared their marriage in a statement to Entertainment Tonight, the internet was abuzz with discussions.

"The rumors regarding an extravagant wedding are simply not true. Last year, we were married in a quiet, private, and beautiful ceremony," Janet Jackson and Al Mana said, adding: "Our wedding gifts to one another were contributions to our respective favorite children's charities. We would appreciate that our privacy is respected and that we are allowed this time for celebration and joy."

Rumors about a planned spring wedding of Jackson, 46, and Al Mana, 37, started to circulate in December following reports featured in media such as the weekly Us Magazine. But Janet Jackson, the younger sister of the late singer and star Michael Jackson is known for keeping her private affairs away from media glare.

In 1984, the singer was married to James DeBarge, which was annulled a year later. She also married video director Rene Elizondo in 1991, which ended in 2000. She was also said to have been in a long-term relationship with music producer Jermaine Dupri, which never resulted in marriage and ended in 2009.

Although nothing much is known about the private life of Al Mana, he is a part of a successful family business Al Mana Group and his reported estimated net worth is over $1 billion.
