If history holds true, Danica Patrick may want to hold back Sunday at Daytona.
Only twice in the last 16 seasons, has the checkered flag at the Daytona 500 resulted in a Sprint Cup Series title, Jimmie Johnson in 2006 and Jeff Gordon in 1997.

Patrick won the pole last week with a 196.434 mph, but heading into Sunday’s race her teammate slash team owner, Tony Stewart, is the favorite.
The three-time Sprint Cup Champion has never won the Daytona 500, but sports book website Bovada.lv has 9 to 2 odds in his favor, with Kyle Busch next at 6 to 1, and Dale Earnhardt Jr. at 13 to 2. Patrick is a 20 to 1 favorite. The entire list can be viewed here.
Like Stewart, Busch has never won America’s Race, but Earnhardt Jr. won in 2004.
The 30-year-old Patrick hopes to improve on her 38th place showing in last year’s 500. She spent most of her season on the Nationwide Series with seven Top 10 finishes and one pole.
The race begins Sunday at 1 p.m. and will be broadcast by FOX.
