BlackBerry 10 will not be getting the popular photo editing and sharing app Instagram anytime soon.

"There will be no [native] Instagram for BB10 for now...Frankly, I'm not sure there will ever be," anonymous sources close to Instagram told AllThingsD.

Just prior to its much-hyped stock market debut, Facebook agreed to buy the photo-sharing website Instagram for $1 billion in cash and stock. Now, with the world's biggest social network trading at half its IPO price, Instagram's deal doesn't look nearly as sweet.

After the launch of BlackBerry 10, The Verge reported that Instagram app was running on BlackBerry Z10, but the app was on the custom Android runtime which BlackBerry had created for Android apps to easily port and access apps on their new device.

The ported version of Instagram will look like it is running on Android device and will not offer the same user experience as a native app and sometimes ported Android does not work on BlackBerry Z10.

However, Instagram is not the only app that ports its Android version app to BlackBerry 10. Many app developers do the same instead of developing a native app for custom operating system. This is mainly for saving time and money invested in developing customized app for a particular operating system.

At the time of BB10 launch, the company announced that the BB10 had 70,000 native apps in BlackBerry World app store including Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn.  But the app store still lacks most notable apps like Instagram and Netflix.

Instagram has not said why it will not make a native app for BlackBerry 10 OS. One reason might be that BB10 users are significantly smaller than Android and iOS.
