Manchester City have reportedly lined up a summer move for Borussia Dortmund forward Marco Reus.
The 23-year-old, who joined the Bundesliga champions from Borussia Monchengladbach last summer, has been excellent throughout this season, with 14 goals and eight assists to his name form 31 appearances, including a hat-trick in the 3-0 win over Eintracht Frankfurt last week.
According to the Daily Star, City director of football Txiki Begiristain has now identified Reus as one of the club's top summer targets and is closely monitoring him. The Germany international, who can operate on both flanks or through the middle, has a deal with Dortmund that runs till 2017 and would cost around £30m.
Reus has been a long-time target of City and was linked with a move to the Etihad even before he joined Dortmund. But the player feared a potential lack of regular first-team action due to the English champions' star-studded line-up and backed out of the transfer.
The report claims Begiristain is also keeping tabs on Sevilla winger Jesus Navas as he looks to inject some pace into City's wings. The 27-year-old has a £35m release clause in his contract but should available for around half of that figure, with his current deal set to expire in two years.
However, Navas coming to the Premier League looks unlikely as the La Roja star suffers from chronic homesickness to the extent that he has walked out of Spain's training camps within the country because they were too far away from Andalusia, the region where Sevilla are based. He has also encountered anxiety attacks and seizures in packed stadiums, especially at away grounds, in the past.
City are understood to be prepared to spend big again this summer as Roberto Mancini's current squad failed to build on their last year's Premier League triumph and underperformed in both domestic and European competitions.
Neymar, Napoli hitman Edinson Cavani, Malaga playmaker Isco, Celtic anchorman Victor Wanyama and Derby County's teenage sensation Will Hughes are all on City's radar, while Edin Dzeko, Samir Nasri and Scott Sinclair could be shown the door to help raise funds for the summer spending.
