Moussa Dembele’s 90th minute strike sent Tottenham through to the last-16 of the Europa League at Lyon’s expense in front of a stunned crowd at the Stade de Gerland.
Must Read
Lyon captain Maxime Gonalons scored in the first-half to put the home side level on aggregate but crucially with the advantage on away goals after a 2-1 win for Tottenham at White Hart Lane last week.
And the goal looked like being enough for the Ligue 1 side as Tottenham struggled to break Lyon down and Gareth Bale missed a clear chance to bring his side level.
But as the match ticked into the final minute, Dembele picked the ball up 25 yards from goal and struck a fierce low drive low past Remy Vercroute.
Lyon will also be left feeling aggrieved after they were denied what appeared to be a strong claim for a penalty in the second half as Alexandre Lacazette went down in the area from a challenge from Tottenham goalkeeper Brad Friedel.
