WCBS-TV anchor Rob Morrison was reportedly arrested over the weekend for allegedly choking his wife, CBS MoneyWatch anchor Ashley Morrison.

The Associated Press reported on Monday that Morrison was arrested Sunday morning after police fielded a call at about 1:30 a.m. from his mother-in-law regarding a situation at the pair's Darien, Conn., home.

Police said that over the course of the night Rob Morrison allegedly "had been belligerent toward" his wife, according to the AP, and that he had allegedly "wrapped his hands around her neck."

Once police arrived at their home, Rob Morrison, 44, allegedly went on to threaten his wife with further violence, and the New York Times reports that he now faces charges of threatening, disorderly conduct and felony strangulation, for which he has posted $100,000 bond in advance of a Tuesday court date.

The story evolved Monday when the Morrisons, who have a young son, said in a statement issued through their lawyer that the story about what exactly took place was "greatly exaggerated," and that "Rob and Ashley Morrison are cooperating fully with the authorities to insure that all of the information necessary to properly evaluate this unfortunate incident is made available," the Times reported.

The Darien Police Department released a statement obtained by the Times that read as follows:

“Upon arrival, it was ascertained that Morrison had been becoming increasingly belligerent toward his wife during the course of the evening, culminating in his choking her by the neck with both hands."

The New York Daily News reported that the statement went on to say that "officers did observe red marks on the victim's neck consistent with this allegation."

And a mugshot released by the Darien Police Department showed Rob Morrison with blood on his face.

Ashley Morrison declined medical treatment Sunday morning, the AP reported.
