Tottenham Hotspur are considering a summer move for Aston Villa star Christian Benteke, according to the Mirror. The Belgian international has had an impressive start to his Premier League career. Since completing an £8m move from Genk last summer, the 22-year-old has bagged 11 goals and registered four assists in 23 league appearances. He has 15 goals in all competitions.
Andre Villas-Boas has England international Jermain Defoe and ex-Arsenal player Emmanuel Adebayor as senior strikers. The addition of Benteke to Spurs' squad would certainly give the Portuguese boss more options and also strengthen his side's attacking line-up.
However, the north London club are likely to face competition for the Villa star's signature. The report suggests Atletico Madrid and Borussia Dortmund are monitoring the striker. Premier League clubs Manchester City, Chelsea and Arsenal are also interested in the Belgian.
Benteke's agent, Kismet Eris, has revealed his client could leave Villa Park at the end of the season, if there is an interesting offer.
"It is normal that if you go to a club and do well, then other clubs will show an interest. Christian has shown that he can play in England. So why not take the step up to the next level if the opportunity is there? At the end of the season interested clubs will talk to Villa - but it has to be right for Villa, the buying club and Christian. If all three parties are agreeable then something could happen," Eris explained.
The striker's representative claimed Benteke is concentrating on helping his side avoid relegation. Should he decide to leave the club in the summer, Villa will definitely not let their top asset go without a fight. Eris added that the 22-year-old always wanted to "do well" in England.
"But right now his focus is on Aston Villa - and helping them stay in the Premier League. He wants to repay Paul Lambert for the faith that has been shown in him. But Villa will now ask a big price for Christian, much more than they paid for him, because Paul Lambert was the one who gave him his chance. There will be clubs asking about Christian next summer because he's proved he can do it in England," Eris said.
