In a fantasy idea perfect for a comic, Allied soldiers will be fighting Nazis as well as time traveling and trying to survive against dinosaurs in “Chronos Commandos,” the latest comic from Stuart Jennett. The first issue of “Chronos Commandos: Dawn Patrol” will be released by Titan Comics on July 3, 2013.
“Chronos Commandos: Dawn Patrol” tells the alternate history of Allies and Nazis working together to create a machine capable of time travel, or “time-diving,” notes The Hollywood Reporter. The problems start when dinosaurs are brought into the present, in the middle of a world war with battle lines drawn and soldiers fighting on the frontline. “Chronos Commandos” follows a Seargant and his band of misfits as they try to thwart the Axis plan.
The comic is not taking itself too seriously and revels in the pulp origins of comics and the possibilities that alternate history storylines can bring. In the comic, Albert Einstein makes an appearance but not in the way you would expect and the five comic miniseries also promises giant crocodiles.
Jennett will lead off Titan Comics, home to “Tank Girl,” new imprint and will be the first creator-owned material published by the imprint of Titan Magazine, publisher of “Star Trek Magazine” and “Star Wars Insider.” Jennet’s work has been featured in Marvel UK and is also “2000AD.” In a statement, Jennett said, “’Commandos: Dawn Patrol’ is my unapologetic love letter to a childhood obsessed with WWII, dinosaurs and anything sci-fi and fantasy related -- movies, comic books and pulp novels.”
“Chronos Commandos” takes an everything-and-the-kitchen sink approach that pulls in a wide variety of source material and distilling it into something new. Titan Comics has released some art as well as some background information on the characters and the story. In the release of “classified military files,” the time-diving machine blueprints can be seen as can some background information regarding some of the soldiers.
“Chronos Commandos: Dawn Patrol,” will be out on July 3, 2013 and will be a monthly miniseries on Titan Comics.
