Chevrolet, a division of General Motors (NYSE:GM), will officially be the first automaker to offer integration of Apple’s (NASDAQ:AAPL) iOS 6 “Eyes Free” Siri technology. Not long after Apple first announced its release, nine automakers pledged to integrate Siri into their new vehicles.

On Wednesday, Chevy launched its Spark and Sonic models with the technology in place, as promised. A system called Chevrolet MyLink allows iPhone users to easily integrate smartphone capabilities to make hands-free requests of Siri. Drivers can simply speak out loud to play their favorite iTunes songs, make calls, compose text messages, and update their calendars.

Both car models feature a button mounted conveniently on the steering wheel so that users need never take their hands off the wheel or eyes off the road, a feature that could give Apple’s iPhone an advantage over Android devices among those buying the new Chevy models.

Siri is a major part of the iOS experience, but hopefully some major improvements are made to the speech software in iOS 7, due to arrive later this year.
