That’s the finding of a national employee survey by PayScale.com and Business Insider that has resulted in a listing of the 50 best employers in America.

The list was compiled by taking companies in the 2012 Fortune 500 and ranking them using PayScale’s salary and survey database, said PayScale. Happiness, as measured by “satisfaction, feelings of meaningfulness, stress, and schedule flexibility,” was 57 percent of the final score. Pay, as gauged by median pay after five years and by comparisons to industry peers, represented 43 percent of the score.

Among the nation’s top 10 employers are, from No. 2 to No. 10, Google, Huntsman, Qualcomm, Biogen Idec, MasterCard Worldwide, Chevron, Yahoo!, DuPont, Williams Cos.

Celegene, which is based in Summit, N.J., led all contestants with employees reporting both satisfaction and flexibility at a lofty 91 percent and meaningfulness at 86 percent.

Median pay at Celegene is a hefty $118,000 after five years.

Investors appear to be fond of Celgene, too. In January its shares surged 28 percent. In the last 10 years the stock has gone from 12 cents to its current $98. In the last 10 years shares have gained 5,468 percent.
