Kristen Wiig will officially be joining Will Ferrel in the "Anchorman" sequel.

It’s been nearly 8 years since the film first premiered in theaters and the funny lady had been tied to the film for months, but director Adam McKay confirmed via Twitter on Monday.

"Just found out Kristen Wiig officially on board for Anchorman 2. Cannonball!" he said.

"Anchorman" co-star Christina Applegate (who plays Ron Burgundy's lady love) supported the story with a tweet of her own. "woohoo! That's so great," the actress responded to the director’s post, later joking, "So excited Kristen Wiig has joined our cast for anchorman2. Going 2 b best movie ever made. Besides the best movies ever made."

Those who go see "Anchorman: The Legend Continues" can expect to see the stars of the original cast: Ferrell, Applegate, Paul Rudd Steve Carell and David Koechner will all be returning to help reunite the Channel 4 Evening News team.

According to MTV News, Wiig, who is an “SNL” alum like Ferrell, will reportedly be playing the love interest of Carell's mentally deficient character who loves lamps.

There is no word yet whether she will be a major character or just have a cameo appearance.

Last Spring Ferrell got into the character of Ron Burgundy and delivered the news that there would be a sequel to “Anchorman” on “Conan.”

"I want to announce this to everyone here in the Americas," he interrupted. "To my friends, in Spain, Turkey and the U.K., including England ... as of 0900 Mountain Time, Paramount Pictures and myself, Ronald Joseph Aaron Burgundy, have come to terms on a sequel for 'Anchorman.' It is official. There will be a sequel to 'Anchorman.' "

The Los Angeles Times reported the Judd Apatow-produced film would be hitting theaters Dec. 20. It will be nearly a year until fans will be able to see Burgundy’s many leather-bound books and apartment that supposedly smells of rich mahogany.
