Kamal Haasan's controversial film, "Vishwaroopam" is doing well at the box office despite the delay in its domestic release and the ban in the Tamil Nadu state.

The Hindi version of "Vishwaroop", which was released in Mumbai, Delhi and Uttar Pradesh on Feb 1, collected ₹7.56 crore so far. The Tamil version earned ₹5.69 crore in seven days from the overseas box office.

"#Vishwaroop collected approx ₹7.56 cr + nett in its opening weekend. Breakup:- Fri 1.89 cr, Sat 2.47 cr, Sun 3.2 cr," tweeted trade analyst and film critic Taran Adarsh.

The box office collections in the first three days showed a revenue increase with the third-day earnings at ₹3.2 crore, up from ₹1.89 crore on the opening day. The collections are expected to shoot up once the film hits theatres in Kamal home state which is said to be his biggest market.

The state government had banned the screening of the film citing Section 144 of CrPC after Muslim organizations demanded a ban on its screening saying that some of its scenes portrayed the community in bad light. The ban was imposed despite clearance from the censor board.

Now that the state government has lifted the ban following an "amicable settlement" with the Muslim groups, Kamal is expected to announce a new date for the release of his film.

The 11-day ban in Tamil Nadu has reportedly cost the actor-producer between ₹30 and ₹50 crore.
