Nokia Lumia 710 users in the United States will not be getting further support from carrier T-Mobile, specifically in accessing the Windows Phone 7.8 update, a new report said.

According to Windows Phone Central, T-Mobile has decided against bumping up the Tango handsets that U.S. consumers have purchased right before Microsoft's introduction of the heavily-revamped Windows Phone 8.

The report was based on information provided by an unidentified 710 owner who recently received an email from T-Mobile's customer support, confirming that the upgrade will not be rolled out at all.

"We are sorry to inform you that there are a small number of operators that have chosen not to offer the update to their users ... It is important to recognize that this decision was made solely by the operator and these include the T-Mobile network in the United States," Windows Phone Central quoted the email as saying.

While no clear explanation was offered by T-Mobile, the report speculated that abandoning support for a mobile OS that is on its way out is not worth the extra investment. In short, T-Mobile made a good business decision that is detrimental to some of its subscribers' interest.

Microsoft and WP7 handset manufacturers have earlier indicated that deployment of the 7.8 patch will depend on carriers' decision, meaning network providers opting out would leave Lumia 710 users (and other handset owners on the platform) will be stuck with the WP7 firmware they got out of the box.

Though out in the cold at this point, WP7 device owners can still enjoy the 7.8 update, which is the nearest they can to the Windows Phone 8 experience, the same report said.

Thanks to the hardworking people over at XDA Developers, CAB files of the WP7 levelled up have been made available via this link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=37384687&postcount=1478, and anyone adventurous enough can the take plunge since the prospect of getting the official update is next to nil.

Also, Windows Phone Central has prepared a guide, which can be found on this link: http://www.wpcentral.com/force-updating-your-windows-phone-os-build-8107-tutorial, in case you want to force update your still usable WP7 handset.

But as experts would always warn, this is not an easy process so proceed with the necessary caution.
