Two turnovers, including the first ever interceptions for a San Francisco 49er quarterback in a Super Bowl, and the Baltimore Ravens hold a 21-6 lead heading in halftime at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome.
Quarterback Joe Flacco and receiver Jacoby Jones celebrate their 56-yard touchdown hook up, and the Ravens are on top 21-6 at halftime of Super Bowl XLVII at the Mercedes Benz Superdome in New Orleans.
Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco has shown excellent pocket poise with three touchdown passes, including a 56 yard bomb to Jacoby Jones with less than two minutes remaining in the half.
Flacco has gone 13-for-20 for 192 yards, and vastly outplayed his contemporary in San Francisco’s Colin Kaepernick.
Making the 11th start of his two year career, Kaepernick’s overthrew receiver Randy Moss and Baltimore safety Ed Reed made the interception. Kaepernick has been able to find tight end Vernon Davis, who has four receptions for 72 yards.
On their previous possession, 49ers running back LaMichael James coughed up a fumble that was recovered by Baltimore’s A. Jones, and led to Flacco’s one-year touchdown pass to tight end Dennis Pitta.
News leaked from ESPN hours before kick-off that Baltimore was mulling the release of receiver Anquan Boldin in a salary dump for next season’s cap. Whether he heard the news or not, Bolding has two receptions for 43 yards and scored the first touchdown of the game.
49er kicker David Akers, who caught the wrath of fans for missing many huge kicks this season, is the only San Francisco player to score with a 36-yard and 27-yard field goal.
Neither team has been able to run the ball effectively, with each barely gaining more than three yards per carry.
