Tottenham Hotspur are considering a summer move for SC Braga striker Eder, in case they fail to sign Brazilian Leandro Damiao. The Mirror reports Spurs have been impressed by the 25-year-old Eder, who has nine goals in nine games in the Portuguese league this season.
Andre Villas-Boas is a long-term admirer of Damiao and the Internacional striker has been in excellent from in the Brazilian league, with 10 goals and three assists in 13 games. The White Hart Lane club were believed to be close to signing the 24-year-old in January but the transfer fell through when the clubs could not agree on a fee.
"We have approached this market sensibly and said that if it was going to go out of proportion (fees and wages), we would step out of it," the ex-Chelsea chief told ESPN, "We told you he [Damiao] was a player we chased, but we couldn't agree on the full conditions, so we have moved on."
Eder has a £26m release clause in his contract but the Mirror believes a deal for £8m is possible, given the Portuguese club's financial issues. The Premier League club have had scouts out to watch Eder and have approached his club to open talks. The player is aware of the interest and is believed to be keen on a transfer.
The Guinea-Bissau-born Portugal international has been linked with other English clubs in the past, with West Ham United close to a deal in January last year. The move to Upton Park was cancelled by Eder himself, over personal issues. There was also talk of interest from Swansea City in November, with the Mirror suggesting Eder was expected to replace Danny Graham; the 27-year-old Graham moved on to Sunderland in January, which means the Swans might return for Eder in the summer. At the same time, talkSport added Arsenal and Liverpool to the list of suitors for the player.
AVB Rules Out Midfielder's Summer Sale
Finally, AVB has ruled out the possibility of Iceland midfielder Gylfi Sigurdsson leaving north London in the summer. The 23-year-old signed from Swansea in the summer but has failed to establish himself in the first team at White Hart Lane.
"He's a player that we rate very highly. We brought him here after his amazing contribution for Swansea last year and he's a player that we have high expectations for. Probably this season at the moment he is not going to the level that he wants, but he's a player that we believe a lot in, and in his future here. We couldn't allow him to leave," AVB explained.
