Marvel Studios Inc. is riding high after the breakout success of “The Avengers” last summer. And, as the comic book-based film studio gets ready to release “Iron Man 3” next summer, it has announced it has found a leading lady in Emily VanCamp for the planned sequel to “Captain America.”
VanCamp will be starring alongside Chris Evans in 2014’s “Captain America: The Winter Soldier,” Deadline reported.
Best known for her role as Emily Thorne on the television series “Revenge,” VanCamp is set to play Sharon Carter, SHIELD agent and longtime love interest of Captain America throughout the comic books.
VanCamp appears to have won the part, but other actresses considered for the role included Alison Brie, Felicity Jones, and Anna Kendrick, according to Movie Talk at Yahoo. And there’s a good reason for that. VanCamp has memorably performed in the television series “Brothers and Sisters” and “Everwood,” as well as the movie “Norman,” which earned her a best-actress award at the 2012 San Diego Film Festival.
“Captain America: The Winter Soldier” is slated to revolve largely around Sebastian Stan’s character from the first film, Bucky Barnes, aka the Winter Soldier. In the comic books on which the film is based, Bucky was believed to be dead, but actually was brainwashed by Soviet scientists into becoming the Winter Soldier, an elite and ruthless killing machine who performed assassinations throughout the Cold War.
“Captain America: The Winter Soldier” will hit theaters in the summer of next year. In addition to Evans, Stan, and VanCamp, it will star Samuel L. Jackson and Scarlet Johansson.
And if you can’t wait for the next “Captain America” movie until 2014, why not watch a scene from the original below?
