Newcastle United are close to completing a sixth transfer this month, with Swiss teenager Kevin Mbabu, reportedly undergoing a medical at the club. The BBC reports the 17-year-old defensive player will join from Swiss club Servette. Mbabu is expected to join the Magpies' youth team, until the end of the season, after which his progress will likely be assessed
January has been a busy month for Alan Pardew, with as many as five first team players having been signed. Curiously, all five are French footballers - Mathieu Debuchy, Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa, Massadio Haidara, Moussa Sissoko and Yoan Gouffran - with reports also suggesting 24-year-old French midfielder William Vainqueur could join.
Pardew On Transfers and Villa Win
Meanwhile, Pardew is delighted with the spate of incoming transfers and the impact his new signings have had in so short a time. Moussa Sissoko and Yoan Gouffran made their debut Premier League starts in the midweek fixture against Aston Villa. And the two were key players in the vital 2-1 win at Villa Park.
"I think it's just been a great few days for us. Derek Llambias and Lee Charnley did well to get the players over the line in time for this game and we played with a fluency in the first half that we've not seen for a long while from this team. We caused Aston Villa all sorts of problems, controlled the game - and then we conceded perhaps a silly goal just after half-time and we had to show another side - the fight and the grind and the battle that you need in the Premier League at times. No wins come easy in this division and we stood up to that. It was a combination of our senior players, our new players and some players that have had to show real application to get this win," he said.
