Colorado high school teacher Carly McKinney’s career is in jeopardy following her exploits on Twitter as @Crunk_Bear. The teacher tweeted nude photos of herself, discussed smoking pot and even called one of her students “jailbait.” Not surprisingly, McKinney’s school swiftly suspended her.
McKinney’s prolific Twitter career as @Crunk_Bear has caught up to her. McKinney is a 23-year-old high school math teacher at Overland High School in Aurora, reports The Huffington Post. Because of her Twitter account, McKinney has been placed on paid leave.
It’s a perfect Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde scenario and once again shows the dangers of social media. Pervasive networks like Facebook and Twitter means that every act, post, photo is instantly catalogued and noted. For McKinney and her alias @Crunk_Bear, the problems begin immediately with her Twitter bio, which reads,, “Stay sexy. Stay high. Stay drunk. Stay free. Stay trippy.”
From that point it gets worse for the high school teacher as the Twitter account depicts photos of her smoking marijuana, drinking as well as posting half-nude and fully nude. KDVR also notes that McKinney sent out tweets saying she was grading papers while high.
According to Daily Mail, another @Crunk_Bear tweet said, “Watching a drug bust go down in the parking lot. It's funny cuz I have weed in my car in the staff parking lot.”
Speaking to 9News in Denver, McKinney says @Crunk_Bear was supposed to be a parody account, although it rarely enters the realm of satire nor does it convey any sense of humor or a persona that’s drastically different, exaggerated or comedic to serve as a foil to the real-life teacher. McKinney says the account was created with a friend and that person was responsible for several of the offensive tweets.
One particular tweet, aside from the various photos and drug references, which has McKinney in trouble involves a student. @Crunk_Bear writes, “Just got called Ms. McCutie. Points for being clever, however you are still jailbait.”
School officials are currently investigating McKinney, and she will not be allowed to teach until it's complete. The officials will look to see if any school policies, such as having drugs on school property, were violated. The account @Crunk_Bear has since been deleted but that does not mean the numerous photos or tweets have been lost thanks to archival power of the Internet.
