Bobby Brown may not be to blame for the late Whitney Houston's crack cocaine addiction after all, according to her brother, Michael Houston.

Houston sat down with former talk show host Oprah in an exclusive interview on Monday, and admitted that he is the first person who did drugs with Whitney.

"You gotta understand at the time ... the '80s ... it was acceptable. It's painful... I feel responsible for what I let go so far," he says, TMZ reports.

By 2000, Whitney Houston had been married for eight years to singer Bobby Brown. Their marriage was widely known for fighting, scandals, drug and alcohol arrests. Houston's career was dogged by  heavy drug use for which her family blamed Brown.

Houston even told Oprah Winfrey in a 2009 interview that her mother, gospel singer Cissy Houston, arrived on her doorstep with sheriff's officers and a court order for drug intervention.

From the middle 1980s to the late 1990s, she was one of the world's best-selling artists. She impressed audiences with powerful vocals and an amazing range which was rooted in the Black Church but made palatable to audiences who were used to pop music.

British television host and producer Simon Cowell told CNN, "She was undoubtedly one of the greatest superstars of all time. One of the greatest voices, you know, in our lifetime we're likely to ever hear."

Regrettably, Whitney died in Beverly Hills last February after a drug binge that included cocaine, Xanax and marijuana.

She was the most Googled death of 2012, the search engine revealed last December.

It remains to be seen if or how Houston’s family will respond to Michael’s confession to Oprah.
