Real Madrid again lurched away from events on the pitch to a further storyline in the continuing soap opera of their season this week as Iker Casillas and Sergio Ramos were forced to deny that they had given club president an ultimatum that either coach Jose Mourinho left or they would.
Jose Mourinho continues to endure a difficult season at Real Madrid.
It is far from the first sounding of unrest in this tumultuous season for Madrid. True or not, there was also little surprise in the allegations. Both Ramos and Casillas, two of the Spanish heartbeats of the side, have been left out of the Madrid team this season under a cloud of speculation about their relationships with Mourinho.
Whatever the club may publicly state, it appears that the relationship between Mourinho and numerous important personalities at Madrid is at breaking point and perhaps just being held together in the desperation of trying to claim a 10th Champions League crown.
But for all the apparent problems, Madrid still remain a world-class team as they showed in a thrilling 5-0 victory over Valencia last weekend.
Yet there is now a very real problem on the pitch with Casillas having been ruled out for up to 12 weeks with a fractured bone in his left hand suffered in the second leg of their Copa del Rey quarterfinal with Valencia on Wednesday.
All of which should give Getafe plenty of belief as they head across Madrid to the Bernabeu on Sunday. But Luis Garcia Plaza’s side are in a poor run of form, having gone without a win in their last eight matches in all competitions.
Getafe looks set to still be without attacking midfielders Angel Lafita and Pedro Leon for the trip to the Bernabeu.
Madrid could give a debut to Diego Lopez, who was signed from Sevilla this week in the wake of Casillas’ injury. Sergio Ramos and Kaka return from suspension but Pepe is still sidelined through injury.
Real Madrid (probable)
D: Arbeloa, Ramos, Albiol, Coentrao
M: Khedira, Alonso
Di Maria, Ozil, Ronaldo
D: Valera, Lopo, Alexis, M. Torres
M: X. Torres, Rodriguez
Castro, Sarabia, Colunga
Prediction: Getafe recorded a memorable 2-1 victory over Real Madrid in the reverse fixture this season and have plenty of reason to think that they can secure a memorable league double. With everything going on at the Bernabeu, it may not be a straight-forward victory for Madrid, but they should still come out on top.
Real Madrid 2-1 Getafe
