The Indiaspora 2013 Inaugural Ball, held in honour of Barack Obama's second term as the United States president, took place at the Mandarin Oriental in Washington DC on Jan 19.
The black-tie affair was attended by several top political figures and known personalities of the Indian and Indian American community in the United States.
The Indiaspora Ball is an initiative to highlight the rich contribution by Indian Americans in cuisine, culture and music. Live music entertainment and Bollywood dancing are among the many spectacles of the event.
Speaking to Isha Roy, M.R. Rangaswami, founder of Indiaspora said, "The goal of Indiaspora is to raise the visibility of the Indian Community which now makes up roughly one percent of the U.S. population. While Indians have had tremendous success in so many different fields it doesn't equate to a similar level of influence or stature the community has."
