After multiple reports of on-set feuds and the departures of two co-hosts, rumors are surfacing that indicate that Matt Lauer might be the next host to go.
According RadarOnline, NBC executives are looking to oust the longtime Today Show personality who rakes in a reported $21.5 million a year.
After multiple reports of on-set feuds as well as departures of two different major co-hosts, rumors are finally starting to surface that indicate that Matt Lauer just might be the next to go.
Lauer, 54, has apparently been a source controversy on the Today Show set, much of which has reportedly led to the departure of former co-hosts Katie Couric, Meredith Vieira and, most recently, Ann Curry.
A source told Radar that Lauer’s “feuds with former co-hosts Katie Couric, Meredith Vieira and Ann Curry have taken their toll. Everyone has turned against him, and Matt is going to be ousted because he’s being blamed for the show’s collapse.”
The “show’s collapse” is of course a reference “Today’s” drop in ratings as it fell from first place to second place, behind ABC’s “Good Morning America.”
Recent weeks have reportedly seen much movement behind the scenes of the ailing show, with executives supposedly taking steps to replace Lauer with MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” co-host Willie Geist.
“Adding a fresh new guy like Willie to the mix is just what ... TODAY needs to help pull the show out of the ratings doldrums and compete with GMA,” a source told the Enquirer.
Recent reports also indicate that Alexandra Wallace is to replace Jim Bell as the executive overseeing the NBC morning show. According to RadarOnline, Wallace and Lauer are not fond of each other.
A show insider told Radar that Wallace isn’t afraid to ruffle “Lauer’s feathers” if it means boosting the show’s ratings.
