Liverpool youngster Raheem Sterling has been interviewed by detectives following allegations of assault on a woman.

It has been confirmed that the 17-year-old winger was called in for interrogation on November 5, three days after an alleged attack on a 27-year-old woman in the inner-city district of Liverpool 8.

Sterling visited the police station by prior appointment, and was not arrested as police want to investigate the case further.

"Merseyside police can confirm that a 17-year-old male from the Woolton area was interviewed under caution following a report of an assault on Friday, November 2. A 27-year-old woman received slight injuries during the incident in the Liverpool 8 area. The investigation is ongoing and no formal action has been taken," the Metropolitan Police spokesperson stated.

Sterling won his first England cap in the 4-2 loss against Sweden last week and was hailed by Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers as one of the best young talents to come out of the country of late. The player stole the spotlight this season, after his promotion to the Liverpool first team.
