For evidence of the anticipation that’s surrounded “Skyfall” look no further than the box office numbers. After just one week in theaters the newest James Bond film has grossed $538 million worldwide and now the excitement has spread online with the news that the opening sequence to the movie has leaked.
Daniel Kleinman, who has worked on the opening to every Bond film since “Goldeneye” except 2008’s “Quantum of Solace”, designed the beautiful display. The three minutes are almost a film inside of a film, complete with a soundtrack of Adele singing the theme song, also named “Skyfall.”
The James Bond fan site MI6-HQ.com reported that Kleinman chose the use the images of silhouetted women, a return to the traditional Bond title sequence after that was partiall abandoned for “Casino Royale” and “Quantum of Solace.”
Badass Digest ranked the “Skyfall” opening among the best title sequences in the entire Bond franchise, which now spans 23 films.
The popularity can in part thank Adele because of the singer’s rendition of the title track. “Skyfall” debuted at No. 3 on the Top 100 last month and has dropped a few spots, a trend that seems unlikely to continue because of the film’s success, according to Billboard.
Along with the female silhouettes, the CGI-heavy imagery focuses on Daniel Craig as Bond’s descent into confusion about his life choices after decades as a spy. It draws on questions of loyalty and moral ambiguity that faces 007 throughout the rest of “Skyfall.”
